New Version Released to Fix IE Bug: v0.8.2 Beta

BizDir 082bBusiness Directory for WordPress v0.8.2 Beta is now complete. As you can see by the clever graphic on the right*, we now have Categories, IE Compatibility, and Security. All built-in, and still for the same great price.

Thank you for being patient, and thank you for your comments and feedback.

We have finished our testing and have released v0.8.2 Beta, which should be in your WordPress Auto Updater in your Plugins Admin. If not, you can download it from the Business Directory for WordPress download page.

We discovered that under certain conditions our plugin was effected by a known Microsoft IE Bug. We were able to make the necessary changes and as far as we can tell we have things working for all environments.

My apologies for not catching this in the earlier version; we are Mac heads and scrimped on the Windows testing on the first go-around. Even if we were Windows users, however, we would still be using Firefox, and recommend it to everyone we meet. Nevertheless; we acknowledge that much of our world must be filtered through IE, and so we have expended a few more days to make the appropriate accommodations.

Let us know what you think in our comments. Rate our plugin when you have a second, and tell all your friends about us.

Oh, and don’t forget that we are running on SpareWare; if you like what we have done and want to support us, send us your spare change.

*Please do not comment on our inability to produce actual clever graphics; We know.  :-)

I am receiving an AJAX error when I choose categories. It says “An AJAX error occurred. Please reload the page and try again.”

Any possibility of allowing CSS changes and allowing to rename Search bar something else.. instead of the “Business Directory.” We are not trying it as a Business Directory. In fact, if we can find a robust one, we are willing to pay $50 a month for one. If you have any suggestions for a Commercial grade directory that incorporates into WP.

    Thanks much!

The first section of our User Manual explains how you can change the name of the Directory on your site. To my knowledge, this is the best one out there. :-)

Okay. Ours needs more of a commercial grade. For example, we pay $99 a month just a for Calendar of Events. Also, we need different directories for different things. As far as I know, this allows you to create only one directory for a site. Lets say, we need one to list businesses, we need another page (and directory) to list something else.

The closest thing so far is, eDirectory but doesn’t meet our specs.

As with Mark above, I am receiving an AJAX error when selecting categories in both IE and Firefox (only ones I’ve tested). Do you have a fix?

    Hello.

The new 8.2 version doesn´t do the job. Categories are allright now but 8.2 it´s more restricted that the old version. I get the following error messages:
Lister’s name can only contain letters and spaces. ( Meaning: you can´t fill a Spanish name with a accent like García for example)
Invalid character(s) in lister’s description. (Meaning: you can´t give numbers slashes et cetera)
Lister’s phone is not a valid phone number. (Meaning: you can´t give more than one phone number. Most people have two phone number these days (home/office and a mobile number.)

    Greetings
    Ad

    P.S. I´m working with Firefox

I notice some problems with the characters for the description and the phone text area, in the add contact area, in earlier versions they allowed characters such as::, #, an accents, this new version don’t,
    I hope to be arranged.

  11. Posted September 18, 2009 at 8:58 am | Permalink

We are restricting some characters to improve security. We cannot think of a reason why you would want to put a ‘#’ in a phone number field other than to inject code. If there is a reason, please let us know and we’ll put it back in on the next revision. We are restricting a few common code symbols that are not commonly used in writing. Let us know what you think.

Cary Snowden writse: ´We are restricting a few common code symbols that are not commonly used in writing.´

In my opinion, that´s a example of restricted thinking. There are more languages in the world than English. And another thing is that we´re not talking about # here but about accents like the accent aigu, the apostroph etc. Very common in Spanish and Dutch the two languages I use.

    Brilliant. Superb. Awesome.

Im mac head too, and use firefox on my PC so didnt pick up on the error until I started getting emails.

    Thanks xx

Can we have an exact answer on what are the characters forbidden in the plugin? I can understand on the ‘#’, but in my sense the apostrophe, the dash should be allowed in there.

This needs to be addressed asap.

Regards, keep up the good work!

Business Directory is a very good plugin, but you can not use because it accepts Spanish characters like ñ or accents such as á, é, í, ó, ú
    Can this be corrected somehow?

  16. Posted October 2, 2009 at 2:19 pm | Permalink

It won’t submit the listing, it doesn’t show up in the back-end admin section.

Great application -People like to be listed on my site.

I would like to 2nd Mark’s request for the ability to create “different directories for different things”. One install of Business Directory on a URL with the ability to create multiple directories would be VERY handy :0).

    Thanks for the great plugin!

However, I too am getting the “Invalid character(s) in lister’s description.” Things like – and ‘ need to be allowed. Can this be fixed ASAP?

    Thanks in advance!

We are working to fix this. We will soon come out with a new update that allows all characters. Sorry for the trouble this has caused.

    Hi guys,

Any chance of internationalizing the plugin? I’d like to translate it to Brazilian Portuguese. I’ve tried myself to internationalize it, but it didn’t work.
    Thanks!

Any chance a future update could make it easy to pick which fields get included in the output? I’ve been manually editing the functions.php file to get the person’s name and address to appear.

Darn, I was so excited about this. But when I tried to add a test listing in IE, it just keeps saying, please wait…but I get a javascript error, and it is not submitted. Maybe a conflict with another plugin? Don’t know.

Hi, and thanks for the handy business directory! Everything works great with the exception of when trying to browse by category, a dialog box that pops up and reads “an Ajax error occurred. Please reload the page and try again.”

Is there a way to simply turn off the category feature or fix that glitch?

  26. Posted December 6, 2009 at 9:24 am | Permalink

First of all, awesome plugin, it really helps!

I keep getting this error on the front end, when I either submit a new listing, or try and filter categories –

An ajax error occured. Please reload the page and try again.

I’ve disabled the ajax comments plugin I had installed but it’s still happening, any ideas?

    Hi -

Started using your directory plugin and it looks like it will work well for me. One bug I found that you might want to be aware of:

When I populate the “Org. Email” field, it seems to break the listing. CSS gets messed up and not all the listing info shows. This occurs in both IE and FF. Leave the field blank and everything is fine. Could be my WP theme I guess, but I thought I’d mention to you.

    Thanks!

installed the directory just fine – no problems there. submitted my first entry and it just sat there until the page froze. It will say “submitting form, please wait….” and then nothing happens. I refresh the page and got to start over again then same thing happens. I uninstalled then reinstalled it – same thing. Would love to use this plugin, just can’t get it to work? any advice, help or instructions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I am trying to add website URLs into the Org. Website box but if i link to anything but the main address (i.e if i link to http://www.nationwide.co.uk/hpi/calculator.asp rather than http://www.nationwide.co.uk) i get the error “Organization website is not a valid URL”. Does this box not work properly?

Hi I would like to use all 3 of your plugins bout I get the error
(An ajax error occured. Please reload the page and try again)
The Business Directory was the first one I installed never had the the problem when I tested. I uploaded your other 2 plugins today, FAQ Builder & Quick Contact, the all gave the error (An ajax error occured. Please reload the page and try again) but only Business Directory & FAQ Builder worked, but the error still showed up when you press submit or search. Is there any thing that can be done to fix this error?

    Thank You, God Bless You
