We have received a great deal of feedback, some of which are reports that something is not working. We have discovered that a couple of things are causing most of the problems.
I want to report them here so more people can find them. Here they are…
Do Not place both the Directory Form and the Add Form on the same page.
The two public forms in this plugin are not designed to be on the same page. Putting them together will cause a failure, and your Add Form will not work (the ‘submit’ button appears dimmed and does not respond, for instance).
There are aesthetic reasons you won’t want them on the same page, too. For example, if you placed your Add Form on top of your Directory listing, your visitors would not realize you have the Directory until they scrolled down past the Add Form. Likewise, if you put the Add Form below the Directory, you will loose the Add Form down the page as your Directory fills up.
Place them on separate pages, and add a little intro text above each with a link to the other.
Do Not use the old version.
You should be using v0.6 or higher. The new version is already much better, and does not require the folder rename. In addition, we have addressed a couple minor bugs that seemed to be generating problems for some users.
NOTE: If you have updated from v0.5, your folders may still need to be renamed. Be sure to read our Update Guide to make sure you have upgraded properly; this could be a problem for you if you had/have our earlier version. Upgrading will be ‘normal’ for all future releases.
Don’t forget to Join Our Directory if you have the plugin installed. Thank you!

Great plugin idea. I’ve installed and had to remove because in stripped my theme of its’ color and changed the page format? I am using solostream magazine theme.
I really like the plugin, and would love for it to work in my site, currently, when I activate the plugin, it brings my entire site down. The only way to fix, is by deleting the plugin.
Setup:
WordPressMU 2.6.1

WPtouch iPhone Theme
Thanks for the help.
How can I update the display of the listings. For example I would like to display “Website:” before the URL output etc.
One more thing. What happens when it gets long like 1,000 listings. Can we limit the number which display on one page? Is there a way to show A-Z or 1-10, 11-20 type links? It would also be nice to have a category entry pre-populated with some defaults like “restaurant”, “contractor” etc.
When you go over 30 listings, the plugin automatically creates pagination. A page list will appear at the top of your Directory listing, showing 1,2,3, …etc. Users can search the entire list using the search tool, or can browse pages using the pagination.
We are working on adding ways to sort your lists, and perhaps a way to segregate filtered lists to different pages (for instance, if you place shortcode such as [list_utah] on a page, only Utah listings would show on that page.)
You currently cannot mess with the display without breaking into the code. We are considering spending some time on that, too.
We’ll keep you posted.
Jake,
I know it is troublesome, but it would really be helpful to us if you could turn off your plugins, load the Business Directory, and then turn yours on one-at-a-time to see which one is breaking your site (in combination with ours, that is).
We suspect it will be one that is javascript-heavy, or that also uses shortcodes.
Any additional input you can provide would be helpful. Thanks for the list; that was a great start.
Bob, sorry about the color-stripping. I will have our team look at it on Monday and see if they can figure that one out (haven’t heard that one yet). The likely issue is a conflict with your CSS.
Jesse is our CSS expert; I’ll have him take a look at it and report back.
Thank you, everyone, for your feedback.
Hi
I love the plugin… but when I try to use it, all I get on my directory page is the code… ie [bizdir_directory]. The same for the join page.
I have copy/pasted from the readme file… I am using WP 2.6.2. Seems I have this problem with a few different plugins. Any suggestions?
Michelle, you may have pasted a ‘bold’ copy of the code. (we intentionally bolded it so that it would not work on our instructions page.
To resolve the issue: retype the code into your blog page yourself, or remove the bold tags, which will appear as ‘‘ in your Code editor view.
To clarify: The code will not work if it is bold. We bolded the example so that it would not work on our instructions page. If you copied the code from that page, it is probably bolded.
Remove the bold tags and it should work just fine. Retyping the code is the easiest way to do this. Make sure you do not have Bold turned on when you do this.

We are seeing the same symptoms as Jake and are also running the MU version of WordPress (v2.6.1 MU).
The Apache error log shows:
[Wed Oct 08 16:29:31 2008] [error] [client 192.168.46.7] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_current_user() in /home/beta/public_html/wp-includes/capabilities.php on line 447
As soon as I click “activate” in the admin interface, this error is generated and the admin browser fails to draw a reply page. Also, the public interface to the site generates the same error and fails to draw a page. In effect, the entire site is “down” until this plugin is removed.
We have a completely separate set of plugins installed from Jake’s list. So, I suspect that it is a multi-user issue rather than an interaction issue with another plugin – although that is still a guess at this point.
I’m still investigating as I would like to run this at our site as well. My current suspicion is that there is something significantly different in the MU environment that this plugin is not “playing nice” with. I’ll post more details if/when I have them but thought I’d confirm what looks like the same issue that Jake is seeing. Thanks.
Thanks for the details, Paul; We are looking at it.
Geoff: we don’t currently have a user interface to change the field names. We have this on our list for future development.

So, disabled all of the plugins, activated Biz Directory, and was faced with the same problem. The only thing that I haven’t deactivated is BuddyPress, but for this server, we are kind of production, so I don’t have a test bed. I will try again, but don’t know what to do. Any ideas?
