Hello Business Directory!

And we’re off!

I am pleased to announce that we posted the Business Directory for WordPress plugin today, Friday, September 26, 2008. The plugin is available from the WordPress Plugin directory at this URL:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/business-directory/

A considerable amount of work and effort went into this release, and we are pretty excited about getting it off the ground. We are already headlong into the next release, which will feature some very exciting enhancements.

We welcome you to give this initial release a try, and to tell us what you think; We appreciate any feedback you have to offer.

    hello,
I just installed your plug-in. But on the Join Form ” [bizdir_addform] ” it doesn’t appear the autofill texts and the submit button is also not working. Could you please advise?

After downloading and unzipping the “business-directory”, rename the folder `business-directory` to `biz-directory`.

Being new at this, we created a file structure that doesn’t match the directory that was created by the WordPress system. We will fix this by renaming the structure in the next update, which we will post soon.

    Thanks for the comment, Michael.

Our next version will include the ability to show the address information. We are ‘saving’ this information for possible use in an upgrade process that will allow you to monetize your listing by offering ‘upgrades’ to your users.

We are working on a method to enable you to charge a fee (you set the price) in exchange for beefing up their listing.

We’ll keep you posted on our progress.

Thanks Stanley, it’s great to hear good news!

Don’t forget to add your site to our ‘Directory of Directories’ (at the top of this page, or at http://businessdirectory.squarecompass.com/list-your-business/ ). I’ve already checkout out your site and it’s looking great!

    Thanks for letting us know!

Cool looking plugin – is there anyway for a business to edit their info once they’ve submitted it?

Chris, thanks for the comment. I have posted an answer to your question over in the FAQ. Here it is…

Q: Can a person who submits a listing make edits?

Answer: No, the way you deal with this situation is to delete the entry, and ask the submitter to try again. The submission form only takes a couple minutes to complete, and we figured you would rather just hit ‘delete’ than to manage a bunch of user accounts.

We may look at this again in the future.

The FAQ, by the way, is nicely hidden on the Documentation page. You can get to it here: http://businessdirectory.squarecompass.com/documentation/faq/
